Macro lens for photographing jewelry:
Left image: 1.5 times larger than actual object.
Right image: actual 2.1 megapixel resolution --
not that high in these days of 3 and 4 megapixel cameras.
We could have gotten the resampled image at left
at lower resolution than 2.1 megapixels in the original image.
Resampling is necessary:
Larger images load too slowly!
So, for webpage use and small prints,
it's the lens that makes the difference.
Large prints are a different matter altogether.
